HAPPY SABBATH! We are in store for a beautiful Sabbath with our special guests from Mount Pisgah Academy! Welcome to our guests, friends, and all that come to this place to worship today! Everyone is invited to our Fellowship lunch in the gymnasium after worship service.

A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR: As a veteran I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make our Veteran’s Day program a great success. I especially want to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of Jessie for her energetic effort in bringing it all together. Thank you church for the recognition of the sacrifices of our vets and active military warriors. I know all attendees were appreciative. Pastor Jerry LaFave.

CHILDREN’S REHEARSAL TODAY immediately after Fellowship lunch (1:00 pm). Be prepared to practice all the music during rehearsal. Next children’s rehearsal will be on Sabbath afternoon, December 2nd.

CHRISTMAS MUSICAL REHEARSAL TODAY at 2:00 pm. All singers and musicians please be at rehearsal. We will resume rehearsal on Tuesday, November 28, at 6:30 pm.

VESPERS TODAY! “Cruise Ship to Salvation- Are you floating in a Lukewarm Ocean?” will be presented by Jessica. Join us for the program at 5:00 pm.

CHURCH GAME NIGHT SOCIAL TONIGHT, after vespers in the Fellowship Hall! Please be sure to bring your board games, card games, puzzles, and your PS4 controllers. Let’s play together before we leave for the holiday!!

PATHFINDERS AND ADVENTURERS will be meeting tomorrow, Sunday, Nov 19th, at 10 am. We’ll be going out at 11:30 am to collect can goods.

CHURCH BUSINESS MEETING POSTPONED. The church business meeting previously scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed. The date and time will be announced at a later date.

NO PRAYER SERVICE THIS WEEK. There will be no morning or evening prayer service on Wednesday, November 22nd. Enjoy special time with your family and friends. Thanks be to God!

TWO WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS JUST FOR YOU:

SABBATH MORNING, DECEMBER 9th at 10:45 am, “NOEL, JESUS, OUR SONG” CHRISTMAS MUSICAL. This will be a program of traditional worship music that re ects the goodness of Jesus – His birth and His Love. Come celebrate with us as we praise Jesus, the reason for the season!

SABBATH EVENING, DECEMBER 16th at 6:00 pm, “COME, LET US ADORE HIM” CHRISTMAS MUSICAL. The youth and adults of Columbia First, and friends, will share the redeeming love of Christ. The youth will perform “The Colors of Christmas,” and the choir will perform “Come, Let Us Adore Him.” These multi-generational and dramatic programs speak to all that God has done and is doing for us. You do not want to miss it! Please invite family, friends, coworkers, … everyone, as this is an outreach ministry.

HAPPY SABBATH! We look forward to worshipping with you today! Today is dedicated to our veterans who have served our God and our country, and to all of those who continue to serve in the Armed Forces of our nation. For each of you, we are eternally grateful and we thank God for you and your service. We invite all visitors to join us for visitor’s lunch after worship service today.

PATHFINDERS & ADVENTURERS will be distributing flyers for our annual can collecting this afternoon at 2pm. Our Pathfinder meeting will follow at 3 – 4:30 pm. Can foods will be collected next Sabbath.

VETERAN’S DAY EVENT TONIGHT! This is our event honoring all veterans! Come and enjoy wholesome entertainment and a meal specially prepared for our veterans. Let’s make this an experience that will show that we appreciate their service and that we always offer them a spiritual home here at Columbia First.

DEACONESS MEETING. Deaconesses will meet Thursday evening, November 16, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall to prepare Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for the shut-ins.

CHRISTMAS MUSICAL REHEARSAL TODAY at 2:00pm AND Thursday at 6:30pm. November is here! All singers/musicians please be at rehearsal.

NO CHILDREN’S REHEARSAL TODAY: We will resume rehearsal on Sabbath afternoon, November 18th, Immediately after Potluck Luncheon. Be prepared to practice all the music each rehearsal session.

40 DAYS OF PRAYER Wednesday night at 7:00 pm! Please join Pastor LaFave and our group as we study what the Word of God and experience the power of prayer! Bring your prayer partner and prayer list!

PARADE FRIDAY MORNING NOV 10th: Participant Information & Guidelines – No Distribution of Religious Materials, i.e. tracts, books, leaflets, pins, etc. on parade route. Parade Route: Starts at the Laurel & Sumter Street intersection and runs south on Sumter Street to Gervais Street. Weather: The parade goes on rain or shine. Assembly: Line-up begins at 8:30 am. All participants must be in their designated assigned areas (we are #71) no later than 10:00 am. Streets will be barricaded that morning starting at 9:00 am. Dispersal: Dispersal is at Senate Street. Some parking is available in that area. Parking: City garages are open that day for parking. Parking is FREE until 2:00 pm. Note: If you would like to walk alongside our float, please contact Terresa.

PATHFINDERS AND ADVENTURERS will be going out on November 11th after church at 2pm to distribute flyers in the community. This is our annual food drive to help those who are in need. We will have our regular meeting from 3:00 pm – 4.30 pm.

VETERANS AND MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY  is November 11th during our worship service. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Charles Knapp, the chairman of the Desmond Doss Council. He served as a special consultant on the film, Hacksaw Ridge. It will be nice to see military uniforms and others wearing something patriotic on this special day. Please encourage our members and friends to be present and to help make this a special time of remembrance and celebration for our veterans and active duty military during the church service.

VETERAN’S DAY EVENT- NIGHT OF NOV 11th! VETERANS HONORING VETERANS! Women’s ministries will be sponsoring a Veteran’s Day Dinner on the night of November 11th- NEXT SATURDAY NIGHT! This outreach event will feature performers and a meal for veteran’s and their families! This is a major event hosted by our church! We are asking for your contributions to take care of expenses. Please support us in providing for our veterans.   Prizes, contributed partly by our sponsors, will be given to veterans at this event. Let’s make this an experience that will show that we appreciate their service and that we always offer them a spiritual home right here at Columbia First. The parade takes place in downtown Columbia at the intersection of Sumter and Laurel streets, and travels southbound on Sumter Street, ending at Pendleton Street near the State House. We extend our deepest thoughts of love and prayers to the Van Gorder and McElvinia family in the loss of Frances Van Gorder, mother of Linda McElvinia. It is our prayer that God will embrace you all in His presence, strength, and comfort during such great loss. We love you.

HAPPY SABBATH! We are glad that you have come to worship today. When so many are affected by natural disasters and floods, it is indeed a blessing to worship together, to think about how we are blessed, and to lift up the needs of others. Have a blessed Sabbath.

PARTICIPATE IN HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF. TODAY, Seventh-day Adventist churches across the North American Division are collecting a special offering to support the relief efforts of Adventist Community Services (ACS) in Texas and Louisiana to help provide relief to people effected by Hurricane Harvey. Let us give to help the hurt and loss caused by Hurricane Harvey.

FAMILY MINISTRIES hope that you have received a blessing this week from the daily Grapevine nuggets on Growing Disciples through Family Togetherness. We will be having a Disciple-Making Parent Forum TODAY at 2:00 in the Sanctuary. The focus will be facing the difficulties and techniques of parenting in our toxic and hostile everyday life.

FAMILY TOGETHERNESS WEEK begins TOMORROW, September 3rd! and will run through September 9th. Growing Disciples is the Family Ministries theme for this year. As stated in the conference plan for Family Ministries,” To speak about Growing Disciples without a compelling awareness of our daily personal need of Jesus is like walking through the desert without access to portable water to quench our inevitable thirst.” 

It is Columbia First’s hope that family worship will become the place where each family and single adult will make time to connect with God in a compelling awareness to Grow Disciples as a member of God’s family!

Please keep the family in prayer that they will feel the fullness of God’s love and comfort at this time. McDonald family, please know that we love you and are lifting you up to our Father in heaven.

Memorial for Darwin McDonald

The memorial service for Darwin McDonald will take place this Thursday, August 17 at 7PM at the Columbia First SDA Church. The family will receive all those who wish to express their sympathies at 5:30 PM. The family asks that no flowers be sent but that donations in memory of Darwin McDonald be made to the GSF Foundation (http://www.gsffoundation.org).
