Interim Pastor Jerry LaFave

Interim Pastor

Pastor Jerry and Barbara  celebrated their 47th year of marriage this year.  They have four daughters, and enjoy the blessing of seven grandchildren.   In 1978, while working in lithographic arts in Grand Rapids, Mi., Jerry sensed God’s calling to ministry.  After much prayer and the support of Barbara, He would leave that occupation and move his young family to Berrien Springs, Mi. to attend Andrews University where he would receive a BA in religion and a Masters of Divinity degree.

The LaFave’s would pastor several churches in the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.  Pastor LaFave would also serve as the Michigan Conference Youth Director before accepting an invitation by the Kansas/Nebraska Conference to be the senior pastor of the New Haven Church in Overland Park, KS.  The LaFave’s served that congregation for thirteen years before moving to Spartanburg, SC, to be senior pastor of that congregation for nearly nine years.  Along with being a dedicated and active pastor’s wife, Barbara has owned and operated an adult foster care facility, served as secretary at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee Mission, KS., and enjoyed being a Bible worker for the Carolina Conference.  The LaFave’s retired in 2016, but continue to serve according to the prompting of the Lord, and currently serving as Interim Pastor here at Columbia First.
